We look forward to revisiting Edcamp Library Promise in the future as this amazing professional learning opportunity continues to grow and fulfill #librarypromise for EVERY student. Through their work in Edcamp Library Promise, Klein librarians are exemplifying the district’s strategic priorities of reimagining learning, cultivating talent, and building community. “I thought it would be really great to hear from other librarians in the Houston area and see what other librarians are doing and see what everyone’s best practices are.” “Katy ISD is actually having an EdCamp today, but it’s for general educators, and I loved how this one focused on libraries,” said Sarah Letts, Katy ISD Librarian. Librarians, library students, and teachers (from as far as Leander ISD) shared their ideas, questions, and experiences about topics including advocacy efforts, integrating technology, providing meaningful lessons for special populations, and so much more. “We really are focusing on modern libraries for modern learners, and that’s the library promise.” “We really are building a community of librarians, not only in Klein but in the whole South Texas area,” says Camp and Erkman. ![]() Inspired by their visit to Edcamp Library in Frisco, TX last summer, Grace Erkman and Jamie Camp, were determined to bring this type of opportunity to Klein and showcase the amazing leadership represented in our district. Edcamp Library Promise, sponsored by the Edcamp Foundation, focused on modern libraries for modern learners and is the first of its kind in the Houston area. Edcamps are a personalized professional learning opportunity in which participants suggest specific topics for sessions. Starting in 2022, we give every local team the open knowledge to organize their Edcamps and build or expand local communities of practice.Over 50 educators from 10 different districts braved the rain to take part in the district’s first-ever Edcamp Library Promise this past Saturday morning. One of the teams even received the "best school initiative" award from the Ministry of Education. It provided mentoring to three self-organized teams across the country to set up Edcamps around community-level education issues. In 2021 we launched the "Community Edcamp" project. Edcamp allowed participants to collaboratively determine session topics and attend sessions that best meet their needs. A free public event, Edcamp grew from 450 participants in 2019 to 5,000 participants in 2020. We started by launching the Edcamp conference-Armenia's first conference for educators. We aimed at bridging teachers, school leaders, policymakers, researchers, and parents. Our goal was to build an environment that leverages the knowledge and experiences of education stakeholders to think and act together. In 2019 we launched the 3-year Edcamp project in Armenia.
